SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Opening Zion, A Scrapbook of the National Park's First Official Tourists • Researched, wrote, designed and created the cover illustration for a book published in 2010 by the University of Utah Press. A scrapbook discovered in 2008 led to this full-color photo documentary on the first tourists hosted by Zion after becoming a national park.
Utah license plate • Worked with a committee from the highest offices of state government to design Utah’s newest ski-themed license plate that was passed into law by the 2007 legislature.
Motor Tales, Utah’s History Behind the Wheel • Researched, wrote and designed a series of books on automobile history in Utah. The series includes 12 volumes, each with a cover printed from a hand-carved linoleum block.
AIGA 100 show • Impulse CD logo displayed in 1998, and Scenic Highways logo accepted in 2012.
Society of Professional Journalists, Utah Headliners show • Placed five times in this state-wide competition for illustration and page design between 2006 and 2009.

RELATED EMPLOYMENT
SCENIC HIGHWAYS SPECIAL PROJECT • GRAPHIC DESIGNER/ILLUSTRATOR • Tooele, Utah, Current • Working freelance on a poster design project for western national parks. Illustrations in this series feature scenes relating to tourism. Posters are created to sell in park visitor centers.

UTAH EDUCATIONAL SAVINGS PLAN • GRAPHIC DESIGNER/WRITER • Salt Lake City, Utah, Apr. 2011 to Sept. 2013 • Created all print advertising media, including brochures, posters, envelopes, magazine ads, booklets, signs, banners, and presentations. Art directed photography or created content for these materials where needed. Also managed production of each project from concept to delivery. Worked within strict guidelines to insure accuracy of technical and legal information.

ALLEN COMMUNICATION • GRAPHIC DESIGN CONTRACTOR • Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan. 2011 to Apr. 2011 • Developed graphics, including assets for Flash animations and interface designs, for web based training courses exclusively.

DESERET NEWS • ASSOCIATE ART DIRECTOR/GRAPHIC DESIGNER • Salt Lake City, Utah, 1999 to 2010 • Produced illustrations, graphics and page layout for display sections of the Deseret News. Worked with a team of writers, reporters and editors to produce and implement graphics for the daily newspaper on deadline for both print and online applications. Served as the art director/designer for the LDS Church News. Duties included building every issue of the 16-page section, producing all maps, logos, illustrations, charts and graphics for the weekly tabloid. Redesigned the LDS Church News in 2003. Cut complicated production time in half for this section by standardizing workflow. Wrote, designed and illustrated stories for news features when opportunity allowed.

EVANSGROUP ADVERTISING/PUBLICIS • ART DIRECTOR/DESIGNER • Salt Lake City, Utah, 1996 to 1999 • Built a wide variety of products for a diverse client base. Produced brochures, posters, logos, illustrations, advertising, etc. Duties also called for art directing photography. Developed a strong proficiency in computer based production while working on a team that built and maintained a large body of direct mail advertising. Often met with clients to discuss marketing and branding issues, offering ideas and concepts to meet their various needs. Enhanced communication skills and ability to conceptualize visual approaches to a variety of advertising subjects through diverse experiences at this agency.

HARRIS RESEARCH INC., PARENT COMPANY OF CHEM-DRY • ART DIRECTOR/DESIGNER • Logan, Utah, 1995 to 1996 • Created all advertising, promotional materials and package designs from start to finish as the only staff artist. Some of these projects included brochures, a product catalog, point of purchase displays, aerosol cans, labels and scented-envelope packages. Worked directly with printers, prepress companies, photographers and illustrators. Art directed all of these services and handled bids for most of them within a budget.
